Each spring, dancers from Levels 1–8 join the Youth Company in presenting a weekend showcase of mixed repertory. The first act consists of a diverse selection of ballet and contemporary pieces featuring members of the Youth Company, including world premieres by guest choreographers and BBT faculty. In the second act, students from all levels join together to present a classical ballet, showcasing their technique and artistry in a performance that engages audiences young and young at heart.
Past Act I pieces include Sally Streets’ Celebration, Lawrence Pech’s Same Pie, KT Nelson’s Knowing the Ropes, Dani Rowe’s O, and Robert Dekkers’ On Us and Akin Again. Past Act II favorites include The Sleeping Beauty, Paquita, and Coppélia.
In 2018, BBT’s Youth Company will open the Spring Showcase with contemporary works by four exceptional choreographers, and then the Youth Division and Youth Company will share the stage in a new interpretation of the classical masterpiece Études, with choreography by BBT’s Artistic Director Robert Dekkers.
