The promotion of young men in ballet is a critical piece of BBT’s children and youth divisions. Our Boys’ Program offers young men a range of training from beginning classes through pre-professional levels. As boys advance in their study of ballet, they have the opportunity to participate in classes focusing on the strength and technical work specific to male dancers.
Children and their parent/caregiver share the joys of music and movement in this class featuring group interaction exercises. Through song, storytelling, and mime, We Dance Together encourages imagination and expression. No experience necessary. This is a great way to introduce your child to dance.
A fun and playful exploration of movement designed to inspire creativity and develop and enhance fine motor skills through music, movement, and storytelling. A kids only class, no experience necessary. Children should come dressed in comfortable clothes.
Children ages 4 to 7.5 are introduced to movement and music through gentle and nurturing instruction. Students learn to integrate discipline with creative expression, while having fun. Classes are once a week in the Pre-Ballet Division and the levels group students by age.
Students from age seven onward are eligible to participate in Levels 1 through 5, progressing through beginning and intermediate curriculum, including beginning pointe work. Safe development is emphasized in the context of understanding physical anatomy. Attending class at least twice each week allows students to benefit from regular practice and integrate their learning.
Levels 6 and 7 train Berkeley Ballet Theater’s most advanced young dancers who study Modern on a weekly basis in addition to multiple ballet and pointe classes. Pas de deux and variations classes are added in Level 7.
