Summer intensive audition season is upon us! At BBT, we encourage our intermediate and advanced dancers to explore summer study opportunities beyond our doors to gain new experience, work with different instructors and in different styles, and get a glimpse at the professional ballet world. In order to attend most pre-professional summer programs, students are required to attend auditions during each school’s audition tour. San Francisco is always a popular stop!
Auditioning is a skill gained by practice, so even if a dancer is not intending on traveling for a summer program this year, we still encourage them to attend auditions to gain experience for future years. The best way to approach auditions is like a master class– students should have a positive mindset and understand the fantastic opportunity they have to take class from a school’s faculty, no matter what the audition results are.
If you have questions about what summer program might be right for you, please do not hesitate to contact BBT’s Artistic Staff.
Some important things to consider when choosing a summer program:
At this point in my training, what am I looking to get out of summer study?
Am I looking to hone in on a certain style?
Do I want to gain exposure to a big school environment?
Do I want to establish a connection with a certain company/school?
How far am I willing to travel?
Does the program provide housing?
How many weeks of my summer am I willing to devote?
Below are a listing of some summer intensives BBT recommends to students.
PLEASE NOTE: Read audition notices carefully as dancers may be required to bring a headshot or other ballet photograph. Also notice if ladies need to bring pointe shoes, dancers need to follow a specific dress code, register online ahead of time, come prepared with specific payment, etc.
