studio RentalS: Policies
Renting studio time at the Sally Streets Center for Dance
BBT’s spacious, bright, and professional grade studios may be rented for company rehearsals, auditions, private lessons, and more.
Classes, Workshops, Private Lessons:
Renters are not permitted to hold paid or unpaid classes or workshops, defined as teaching with four or more dancers or students, without prior permission from the BBT Office. Private lessons, defined as having three or fewer dancers or students, are permitted.
Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy:
Full refunds less a $5.00 administrative fee are available with 24 hours in advance of rental.
Less than 24 hours in advance of rental: No refund No-shows will be charged the full rental fee.
Renters using less time than originally reserved, without canceling in advance, will be charged the full rental fee.
BBT reserves the right to remove any renter from the building if the renter is in violation of any of the Studio Rental Policies.
Payment
Payment is due no later than upon arrival unless other payment plans have been made in advance with the BBT Office.
Use
Renters are not permitted to hold classes or workshops – this includes free classes as well as classes for which fees are being charged – without prior written permission from the BBT Office. Please contact the office at info@berkeleyballet.org
Private lessons are defined as three or fewer students. BBT faculty who arrange private lessons are expected to have the student reserve and pay the studio rental rate.
BBT is a multi-use facility with concurrent happenings in four studios. Renters and their attendees are restricted to use of their booked space and do not have exclusive access to other BBT spaces including but not limited to hallways, stairwells, administrative offices, and common areas.
Studio activities are typically booked back to back. Help us stay on time by promptly beginning and ending your rehearsal period. All renters and their attendees must vacate the building immediately after the rental period.
Jazz, ballet or character shoes allowed inside the studios. No street shoes allowed.
Renter may bring all reasonably necessary personal equipment and supplies for rehearsal, but may not store or leave any items after rental period. BBT is not responsible for any personal property that may be stored or left on the premises.
Pianos may not be moved.
Rental for Long Term Rehearsals (3 months & over)
Rehearsal contracts are available to companies and choreographers for weekly dance rehearsals for a period of 3 months or longer. Please email info@berkeleyballet.org for information.
Event Rentals
Renters requesting space for performances, festivals or other major dance events as well as non-dance performances, theatre, music, poetry, etc.) are asked to email the Office at info@berkeleyballet.org before booking the space.
Liability Waiver
This Waiver and Release is applicable to all renters, and users of equipment provided by Berkeley Ballet Theater (For purposes of this Waiver and Release, the term "BBT" includes all employees, agents, representatives, servants, assigns, successors, insurers and subsidiaries of Berkeley Ballet Theater.
By agreeing to rent space from Berkeley Ballet Theater, the Renter agrees that “BBT" shall not be liable for any damages arising from personal injuries sustained by the Renter, Participants, or any minor children under the Renter’s custody, care, and control, as a result of any and all activities related to the rental, operation, or use of equipment provided by "BBT". The Renter assumes full responsibility for any such injuries or damages which may occur, and further agrees that BBT shall not be liable for any loss or theft of personal property. The undersigned specifically agrees that BBT shall not be responsible for such injuries, damages, loss or theft, EVEN IN THE EVENT OF NEGLIGENCE OR FAULT BY BBT whether such negligence is present at the time of renting or takes place in the future.
With full awareness and appreciation of the risks involved, the undersigned, for themselves and on behalf of the Renter and all participants of Renter’s programming, and the family, spouse estate, heirs, executors, administrators, assigns and personal representatives forever release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue BBT, its Board, officers, agents, affiliates, employees, and persons in their immediate household (Released Parties) for any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action whatsoever arising directly or indirectly out of or related to any loss of damage or injury, including death, that may be sustained by the Renter while participating in any activity with BBT. The undersigned agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any and all costs, expenses, damages, claims, lawsuits, judgements, and/or liabilities arising either directly or indirectly from bodily injury, death, loss of use, monetary loss or any other injury from or related to Employee or immediate household due to participation.
BBT Studio 4
Restrictions
No food or beverages, except water in closed containers, are permitted in any studio.
Street shoes and glass are not allowed in our dance studios.
Flammable special effects, candles, incense, open flame, smoke machines, hazers, dry ice, or any other kind of atmospheric effects are not permitted. The use of any of these items will result in a $250 fee.
If a rental will have more than 25 people onsite, the BBT office must be notified by emailing info@berkeleyballet.org. An administrative fee of $50.00 per rental will be additionally charged and the renter must provide a Certificate of Insurance naming Berkeley Ballet Theater (1370 Tenth Street, Berkeley CA 94710) as additionally covered.
Safety and Security
To maintain safety, all exterior doors must remain closed at all times unless opened by a BBT staff member.
BBT is not responsible or liable for any lost or damaged items.
Property Agreement
If any rental damages BBT property, the renter agrees to reimburse BBT for the cost of replacement of the damaged item including but not limited to flooring, mirrors, sound systems, lighting etc.
